What does it sound like? Well, picture this... Jeff Tweedy (Wilco) is on another one of his late night cruises through the streets of Chicago. One hand on the wheel and the other playing tape-deck-DJ in between lighting smokes. He sees a familiar face on the corner of North Western Ave and Division Street. It’s Brian Wilson (Beach Boys) and he’s totally lost (of course). “Last call” is quickly approaching so they pop over to the Rainbow Club (1150 N Damen Ave) to wet their whistles. Ironically Robert Smith (The Cure) is bar tending. After several rounds of whiskey (and I mean the good stuff) they cram into the bar’s photo both for a series of candids (think Beaches). Robert gets off his shift, Jeff drives them over to his studio, and Brian unleashes... Strangers things have happened, but none that sound as good as “Where to Swim”.
For fans of: Hunter S Thompson, skinny dipping, cold beaches, the white man’s overbite, and David Lynch
Tracks: Landmines, House Arrest, Try To Stop This Trainwreck, Overgrown, Rosie, Where to Swim, STS-925, Behind You in Line, Windtunnel, Yellow Car Tides

Daniel Mckenzie (vocals/guitar), Jon Fee (bass/vocals), Jake Krohn (drums), and (at times) Jonny Latimer sprinkling some additional guitar. This is output from the four when they are not busy with The Rum Diary, Mijuanito, Built for the Sea, The Action Design, and The Aimless Never Miss. Self recorded and mixed with Pall Jenkins at SDRL. Each song represents its own symbiotic dance between soaring guitars, melodic bass lines, heavy drums, and catchy hypnotic vocals. Packaged in a hand-stamped eco sleeve with lyrics and insert.
For fans of: Road trips, watching the sunrise/sunset, Guinness Draught, documentaries, and camping
Tracks: CRF 030608, Tomorrow’s Five Horizons, Fields Landing, Latin Metrics, Slow Ravens, Through Dunes

The Rum Diary - We're Afraid of Heights Tonight
CD - Release date: 2006
(This is technically a Devil in the Woods release with a plastic jewel case.)
$10.00

"The album that was not there". Dreamy, lush, pulsing, moody, and rocking. The old boys poured every ounce of heart and soul they had into this one. And took a helping hand from Pall Jenkins (Blackheart Procession) and Tim Mooney (American Music Club). This is technically a Devil in the Woods release with a plastic jewel case. Pure experimental indie pop drone and classic casual noise rock.
"...you should go to your local independent record store and buy it."
- Transworld Surf

Poisons
The Rum Diary - Poisons That Save Lives
CD - Release date: 2003
(This is technically a Substandard Records release with a plastic jewel case.)
$10.00

Critically acclaimed, yet out of print? Not no more. This is technically a Substandard release. 100 copies were recently discovered behind Schuyler's extensive collection of styrofoam take-out boxes. Unfortunately it's packaged in a plastic jewel case, but no use crying over spilt milk. Besides, The Rum Diary were the first to tour in a natural gas powered vehicle. What a bunch of visionaries. Pure experimental indie pop drone and classic casual noise rock. Also available in yellow gold vinyl!
"...this is at heart a group playing very strong, impressionist pop music with an emphasis on hypnotic guitar riffs and forlorn melodies"
- Rolling Stone

- In Music We Trust

I heart Parks and Records and want to make a donation to the little green label that could!

We gladly accept donations and put them to good use!

Please note: Technically we are not a non-profit organization even though we barely break even on our releases, we give a percentage of sales to non-profits, and we are trying to save the planet. Maybe we should just apply for a 501 c3? Anyway, don't let that stop you from supporting your favorite socially responsible indie label. You can send us a little dough and we will bake it into another great release! Thanks!
